souls and faithful friends

It is a matter of record that the Council of Nicea voted that animals do not possess souls. The same council, by a similar and small margin voted that women do. So, we know that they were not wrong all of the time.

Print died last night. He was as loyal and good a friend as I have had in my life. For twenty years he was my friend. His little range of feline expressions were as much communication as any human language. His coming to me, cuddling and purring away as I tried to sleep despite the constant pain of my diabetic neuropathy has been my adult lullaby for the last 10 years. I don’t know how I will go to sleep now.

So, I know something else, besides the loss I feel this day. As I type this through my tears, I know that the council was wrong. His little soul is now in the hands of God. I miss him and always will.

If heaven does not include Print, I am not going.

There **is** a place in Heaven for pets and Print will surely be there. He is free of the discomfort that was his in his last days. The God that loves you and cares for you also recognizes pets as well. It is one of his ways of giving you comfort and love here on earth. You will be with him again.

I'm sorry to hear about Print. As for souls and animals, I just have no idea. I figure I would let God sort that one out, but I know my wife is firmly in the belief that pets will be in heaven because of their interaction with humans. I hope you and her are right.

As for felines, we're currently looking for a new home for our cat (long story), but I know I'll miss her.

Peace,
Phil

I grieve for your loss I know that our pets win a corner of our hearts as much as any family member can. I believe that because their species did not eat of the forbidden tree that they automatically do not have to suffer the consequences of making wrong choices and suffering the consequences of sin. The are God's creatures and also loved by God, and as He promised that their will be no tears there, I know that God will see to their comfort and will let us rest knowing that they are with us. I know that these little personalities can communicate many of God's examples on how we are supposed to live are Christian lives. Many times I pray that I had only an ounce of the pure devotion the our little Reba had for Sun Cha, and that I would have that devotion for Jesus. What an example Reba set for me. Everywhere my wife went Reba had to follow in her footsteps. If something separated her from my wife she pined and yearned until she was once again close by her side at every moment. If only I could have that same flawless devotion to our Lord. Yes I believe that our little faithful servants will be up there with us.

Jim,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your animal companion. I know my stepson has an Akita that is incredibly loyal and devoted to him. If he leaves the dog with us for any length of time, that animal will lie by the door, and just wait until he comes back, whining from time to time. I've never seen anything like it.

On the weekends when he and his wife are not working, the dog pretty much goes everywhere with them, and believe me she is a huge dog, kind of looks like a wolf, but really she's a sweetheart. (My husband and I joke that so far all of our grandkids have tails.)

God comfort you, and bring relief for your pain.

Grace.

Animals are as eternal as the rest of us. Print will be there to welcome you when it's your turn to cross the veil.

Thanks for the note Wendi. I think so too, albeit in my communion that puts me well out of the "mainstream." ;-)
