There is a contemporary joke about the second coming: a priest walks out on the altar and says "Jesus is coming!" the congregation responds "Look busy!" Advent calls us not to shop, although presents and midwinter joy are good things. Advent calls us to respond to the reality of incarnation in Jesus and in our lives.
This link will take you to an amazing Advent calendar. For each day, work from the cathedral collection of nativity sets, an absolutely excellent performance of a Carole a meditation well worth reading and thinking about, and the readings for the daily office are all there. Hint for the terminally busy, listen to the carol, look at the art, in the morning. At lunch it will take less than 2 minutes to read the meditation. Do the lessons with evening prayer after work.

Here is another, very different, very ecelctic calendar from England. I added it on the 6th but do no miss the December 2 window!
Another Calendar
Join me: take the 5 or 10 minutes needed to bask in the love of Jesus that comes shining through the diocese of Washington's amazing calendar. Perhaps when silently, we recognize that gift comes to us again, at Christmas we will experience incarnation real, now, in the grace given. Come into our hearts Lord Jesus.

Thanks. I've already seen the Washington, DC Advent calendar, which is beautiful. But the English one is unique. I'm copying the link for my blog. Thank you.
