In our parish, for one reason or another, I have been the entire prayer shawl ministry. I designed the pattern, I crochet the shawls. Nope, we do not have any knitted shawls; my knitting has limited uses, except in feline comedy shows. It actually does make cats laugh!
The chair of the prayer – intercession group and I are about to try to expand a bit. What we want to do is get a larger group of folks together to make shawls.
I have as we begin this attempt, some questions:
- Have you experienced a prayer shawl ministry? If so what did you think of it?
- Are we the only ones to want both women and men involved?
- Have you any ideas on how to make this a success?
- What if any prayers do you offer to the workers as part of their creation of a shawl?
On that last item, I should note that I am at the anglo-catholic edge of a rather broad church parish. **I** routinely pray for the recipient, including a request to Sts. Raphael and Luke for their prayers for healing and healers. I am not sure that will go well with our evangelical folks, so I am looking for some alternatives to my own practice.
I should be grateful for any ideas.

St. John of the Cross Parish in Western Springs, IL has a prayer shawl ministry that's been going strong for at least 2 years. I believe that it's all women. there are knitters and crocheters. They may be a good resource for you.
